That's correct, but the scroll's lube system don't know it's in a scroll, so when you wash the oil out and gall the bearings. This whole thing started with the "Scroll's will take liquid, we can get more efficiency out of the evaporator!" attitude. You literally have to slightly starve the evap to get rid of this condition. As the 2 phase refrigerant moves thru the suction line, you start dropping the temp at the compressor inlet more back towards saturation, but you're not measuring temp with the TXV at the comp inlet, so on these close coupled applications you have no distance to buffer the wet gas. You're literally superheating vapor in the very top tubes of the last pass while dragging liquid droplets thru the bottom tubes of the last pass. It's got to do with load fluctuations that cause intermittent liquid logging in the evap, and then a sudden increase in velocity of gas thru the evap. I know it sounds odd, but I've been in on some field tests where we installed thin-walled immersion wells in elbows coming right off a DX evaporator, and under certain conditions you would get one temp from a bulb strapped to the outside of the line, and a much lower temp from a probe in the immersion well.
The condition is much more common with TXV's than EXV's. What does happen is the next worse thing, which is a condition called two-phase flow (more commonly known as REALLY wet suction gas).
Good LuckThat would imply no superheat at all, which is not the case. Superheat has to be non existant for that many failures. With that many failures Id be investigating Load issues in addition to the other suggestions.
